Hardship galore. McCourt's parents move FROM the USA TO Ireland in the thirties, how stupid can you be? Pop drinks, mom ends up a beggar, still McCourt manages to bring forth the story of his childhood without pitying himself. Honest and corageous writing, with an ironic twist now and then.
