In stillness, I,
light-bodied, set out for
the other world.
A short night
wakes me from a dream
that seemed so long.
Is it me the raven calls
from the world of shades
this frosty morning?
Whether or not a paradise
awaits in the far reaches
of the west . . .
O morning glory -
I, too, yearn for
eternity
Of such a time as this
the proverb speaks:
this, too, shall pass
Like dewdrops
on a lotus leaf
I vanish
Farewell, sire -
like snow, from water come
to water gone
The joy of dewdrops
in the grass as they
turn back to vapor
Within the vast and empty
autumn night
dawn breaks
