“Don’t you just love it here? I mean, who wouldn’t love to run wild in this place and scoop up all the delicious books they can carry? Reading isn’t only good for the mind, it settles your spirit in a way like nothing else can. How else could you possibly travel the world, travel time, live a thousand lives—all without leaving the comfort of your home? My perfect day consists of eating and reading next to a cozy fire. Can you imagine if that’s all there was to do in life?”

Samantha thought how sad it was that you never really knew when you’d run out of time with the people you love in life. She was just going to love them with all her heart, as if it were the last time.

Macy looked at the cat nobody wanted. She felt like the human version. “I’ll take him.”

The choir began singing “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, and Macy felt her heart lurch. The carolers were all dressed in green and gold and three smaller children had bells which they rang in accompaniment. Macy couldn't help but smile from ear to ear.

Macy was aghast. “FREE? How do they make money giving away free things?” Conner groaned amicably.
“It's not about the money, Macy. It's about the spirit of Christmas.”

“I’ve had panic attacks since I was a child. I don't know if it’s stress; the doctor says stress, anyway.”
“Well, maybe I can help you with that while you’re here, darling. I know some wonderful alternative therapies instead of pills. Doctors never really cure anything, they just put Band-Aids on.”

This earned her a surprised look. “Really? You don’t think homework is good?”
“I don’t know, and I don’t care. Homework means that the few hours I get with my kids every night gets chopped in half. I hate it. I get that education is important, but so are family relationships.”

"I embrace weird. As I've said before, normal is overrated."

"I deserved that. I'm sorry." That was total dirty pool. Apologizing? What was she supposed to do with a man who said he was sorry? That went against all rules of nature.

The blush that burned her cheeks was so potent,
it might as well have a couple of neon arrows accompanying it.
Look here! Nomi doesn't handle compliments well!
"Stop saying things like that."

Nomi was different. A crusader, who still believed there was some good in the world and that it was her job to preserve it.
It was sweet. Misguided.
But so optimistic that he couldn't help but gravitate to her in hopes that some of it would spill onto him.
He desperately needed some of her light.

He didn’t hesitate for an instant, and as his big body settled on top of mine, I experienced a strange feeling of rightness, almost as though we were coming home in some way. It just felt so good to wrap my arms and legs around him and embrace him with my entire body, my entire being.

I didn’t need a jerk like my stepbrother to tell me I was pretty. And I certainly didn’t need him telling me what to do.

But since I was always looking at her, I caught those flickers of despair every time, and every time, I felt her pain in my very core.

“That laugh—” I said it out loud, only I wasn’t completely sure I’d meant to.
“I think it’s kind of shrieky.”
“No, it’s not. If there’s a sound that can add years to a man’s life, it’s the sound of your laugh.”

Godt sagt! (0) Varsle Svar

“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I just wish there was a way to bottle your laugh. I’d wear it on a chain around my neck. That way, I could listen to it anytime.”
“That is so darn poetic and unexpected. Nothing about you makes sense, Ledger. Do you know that?”
“Learned that long ago, unfortunately.”

“Once you’ve spent time on a battlefield, you get good at seeing into people’s souls. The poor girl has some dark stuff going on. Not quite sure what, but whatever it is, she’s here at Rockwood Beach trying to get away from it. Leaving shadows behind isn’t easy though. Another thing I learned as a soldier. You can’t erase the bad once it’s been etched in your memory. Seems like we hang onto the bad a lot longer and harder than the good.”

“You are good, sir. Not just wicked hot, but you know exactly what to say to turn me into a big, soft mess of girl pudding.”

Godt sagt! (0) Varsle Svar

I hadn’t smiled or laughed so much in a long while, and I was finding it healing.

Her heart beat out the syllables of his name.
