The immigrant-settler nation-state of Israel is a blatantly racist state, regarding its indigenous people - once by far the overwhelming majority population of historic Palestine - as less than human, as disposable, expendable and 'transferable'.

As wind within the trees
You may hear what I hear
See what sorrow sees.

Door on the Road

In the Refugee Camp,
after the explosion, a door flies into a far street,
rests near a heap of rubble.
Clouds of dust settle on the coughing,
neighboring houses----
their noses swollen by the heat
of the scorched air.
A girl passes by, sees the bleeding door, opens it. A corpse
lies beneath it.
The earth weeps. Though some fingers got cut,
the dead young man still clutches in his hand
a very old key----the only thing he's inherited
from his father. The key to the house
in Yaffa. He was sure it's been destroyed, but a key
can be his passport to Yaffa when they return.
Now, neither he nor their knocked-down house in the Refugee
Camp can stand.
The girl closes the door. Windows of tears
open in her heart.

I writer must speak on behalf of the unheard, those who cannot articulate well what they feel or see, and most impotantly to me, those who lost their lives under the rubble of vicious wars.

For Mosab Abu Toha, it's poetry. He shares how his verses capture the grief and resilience of Gaza in the midst of destruction."

"Nåden holder svært høy litterær kvalitet, med sitt sterke billedspråk og presise skildringer av natur og ensomhet. Rivenes løfter frem et liv preget av slit og utsatthet og gjør det stort og meningsfullt."
- Dan Andersen, sjefredaktør i Bonnier Norsk Forlag.
Jeg ser også nå at Anne Rivenes debuterte med denne diktsamlingen, jeg bestilte boken i dag.

"I see hope in the fact that Palestinians love life. I can tell about my father who planted some plants in our bombed garden, and he's eating some eggplant, some pepper, some cabbage. I mean, we are planting this hope next to the rubble of our bombed house. The Palestinians continue to plant. And this is what hope is for me."

Jeg leste et lite utdrag fra en bokanmeldelse etter din anbefaling, det er slående vakkert.
Takk, for at du anbefalte boken.

That year, a country and its people disappeared from maps and dictionaries...'The Palestinian people does not exist', said the new masters, and henceforth the Palestinians would be referred to by general, conveniently vague terms, as either 'refugees', or in the case of a small minority that had managed to escape the generalized expulsion, 'Israeli Arabs', A long absence was beginning.

A society that had existed as far as human memory can go back disappeared during a few months; the homeland, the place of residence, the land -- a major source of wealth, dignity and influence -- and the physical and cultural environment, the validity and endurance of which Palestinians had never questioned, turned out to be most insecure.

WHAT IS HOME?

What is home:

it is the shade of trees on my way to school before they
were uprooted.

It is my grandparents' black-and-white wedding photo
before the walls
crumbled.

It is my uncle's prayer rug, where dozens of ants slept
on wintry nights, before it was looted and
put in a museum.

It is the oven my mother used to bake bread and roast chicken before a bomb reduced our house to ashes.

It is the cafe where I watched fotball matches and
played --

My child stops me: Can a four-letter word hold all of
these?
