A wonderful read, with elegant prose that immediately sets the mood and characters you truly emphasize with. A dark tale, with glimmers of light, humour and hope throughout. The story is darkly intriguing with that perfect blend of heartbreaking reality versus dreamy fantasy many authors attempt, but few pull off so brilliantly. I'm very much looking forward to reading more from this author!
Where to begin? There are so many things I loved about this book.
The well balanced blend of the occult and so called real life, the tasteful details that shows just how good of a researcher the author is, and not to forget the pure drive and excitement of the story makes this novel a very enjoyable read!
Definitely one I'll read again as I anxiously await the next in the series.
Another thing I greatly enjoyed is the relationship between characters, how they communicate, how they think and act. They feel real, and you care about them.
I recommend this not only to fantasy or historical fiction readers, but anybody out for an exciting tale with both heart and soul.

Most people say it doesn't hurt, but well, it did.
I thought it might be wine, but it looked more like blood, her blood?
I observe people, what could be more natural for me than to write down what I see?
Life was inviting me to join in, opening it's arms to me so to say, and yet I felt reluctant, unsure if this was what I wanted.
"That's about the time you fainted..."
Once again she had taken me completely by surprise and then left me with questions unanswered.
I've always had different feelings toward Bill; I pity his surroundings, his poor clothes and his hunger. But at the same time, I envy his freedom.
"You do realize, I'm just making up all of this as we go along!"
"Enough" suddendly Sylvia was beside me "either you all shut up, or let him have some!" This brought a round of cheers and they all watched carefully while I suspiciously placed the bottle to my lips, filled my mouth, and swallowed.
