Up to the death of Stalin on 5. March 1953, thousands in Poland were arrested, tortured or disappeared. It was an absolute reign of terror, which improved a little after Stalin, but the grim reality of the communist doctrine remained the same.
His next words were directed to me personally and I have never forgotten them: "Ted, believe me and remember what I am telling you. My health is not the best and I am not likely to last too long after these hard times, but in 50 years from now, which you willl see, you will witness the fall of this communist regime.
