[Wouk is] at his finest when he's arguing against the radical
naturalistic atheism that was intellectually fashionable
when he wrote the book and is now absolutely dominant in the western world.
He weaves together insights from philosophy, sociology, and science
to show that naturalism can often be just another form of received dogma,
and there are matters for which science offers only axioms or.. no help at all.
/ a cemented certainty that belief in God is a crutch for the weak
and the fearful.
It would be just as silly to assert that disbelief in God is a crutch for
the immoral and the ill-read.....
