On the other hand, when kidnappers or terrorists take hostages -usually men as well as women, and for financial or political reasons that are less intimate- studies show that even those hostages tend to retain feelings of fear and dependency long after they regain freedom. This is so common that it has been given a name: The Stockholm Syndrome.
How much deeper are the feelings instilled in women who have lived with and loved the enemy?
