As eighteen year old Emmet Watson returns home, after having served time for involuntary manslaughter, he decides to get a fresh start in life with his little brother, Billy. Emmet's got a Studebaker and together he and Billy are going to California in search of their mother. That proves to be easier said than done when Duchess and Woolly turn up. They are runaways from the same institution Emmet's been released from, and now an adventure begins for all of them. Duchess and Woolly have plans of their own, and it forces Emmet and Billy to travel in the opposite direction - New York City.
This is a highly enjoyable read, full of obstacles, twists and turns you'll never see coming. And if you don't fall in love with eight year old Billy, seek help!
