The book is told through the eyes of a 9 year old, she has lost it all even her ability to decide over her own future. Delightful to follow Chiyo’s voice maturing as her character becomes older. The frequent appearance of Japanese names and words might challenge the reading flow. This novel is based on research on the geisha culture but is not a true story. The way simple events extended in poetic metaphors made the reading enriching.
