Dette skreiv eg om boka i 1996:
I find Rice's writing a bit inconsistent, sometimes close to brilliant, other times rather plain. The history of Azriel, the servant of the bones, has the potential to be a great epos. Some flaws ruins it a bit, like for instance when Rice is making Azriel sound like an impudent teenager talking back on his mother when he actually addresses king Cyrus of Persia. All in all however, this is an enjoyable novel.
