The story is a bit diffucult to get into and it takes about 200 pages to set the scene. After page 200, however, it gets interesting very fast and that sort of compensates for the long introductions to the characters and the steamboat industry. You need to have atleast some miniscule interest in the steamboat industry to be able to enjoy this book. It is refreshingly well composed as I have read the Song of Ice and Fire series from George R R Martin - I cannot recognise his style in this book and that is a good thing.
