T.S.Eliot.s reputation as the leading .modernist. in English poetry is securely established, and his poems not only have a strong general appeal to discriminating readers anywhere but form part of belong to the literary curricula of schools and colleges world-wide. In his day Eliot was also a devout proponent of the need for a poetic drama and has exerted an enduring influence on experimental trends in the theatre. As a literary critic he is still one of the thinkers most frequently quoted, though often challenged. Readers may be fascinated by his poems, however, yet find them obscure, and may fail to appreciate his dramatic intentions. They may also have rather vague impressions of his criticismal standpoints.
