Omtale fra forlaget

When Robert Maxwell is assassinated at sea by an unknown agency, it can only be a matter of time before the dark secret at the hearth of the British Establishment is exposed to the light of day.
SAS soldier Neil Slater has left the Army. While trying to make a new life for himself as a teacher, terrorists attempt the kidnap of one of his pupils. Slater intervenes, and the episode ends violently. Dismissed from the school, it seems that he is to be drawn back into the covert world.
Initially Slater resists . but violence seems to follow him around, and eventually he bows to the inevitable and allows himself to be recruited by the Cadre, a group that applies "the rules of war" to those who threaten the internal and external security of the State.
At M16's riverside HQ, Slater discovers, an acute political crisis has arisen. The SAS have captured Radovan Karadjic in Bosnia and the Serbian leader is to face trial for war-crimes at the Hague. But the trial is threatened by sensitive information held by RDB . the Serbian secret service.
Slater and his colleagues in the Cadre are tasked to kill the arms salesman brokering the Karadjic deal and to recover the incriminating material. What begins as a straightforward hit, however, becomes a nightmare chase through the Intelligence shadowlands. The bodycount rises, and before long Slater is facing the most terrifying ordeal of his life. Who can he trust? And who, finally, is the real enemy?
The chase climaxes in a ferocious firefight in the backstreets of Paris, and the truth finally begins to reveal itself. A truth born of such horror that it has remained buried for more than half of a century.
