Since 1987 the Norwegian Crafts Development (NHU) has worked with traditional crafts in order to preserve, passing on and developing crafts as knowledge, means of expression and profession. In this book there are examples from some of the projects, the methodology and experiences of NHU. Project partners contribute with articles about crafts and the process of gaining skills and knowledge in crafts. The reader will meet such different traditional craftsmen as the blacksmith, the boat builder, the watchmaker and the maker of traditional folk costumes. The examples in the book come from different geographical places, among them; Målselv, Lillehammer, Osaka and Tblisi.

The editors of this book, Hans-Jørgen Wallin Weihe and Eivind Falk, have invited project partners, craftsmen and the staff of the Norwegian Crafts Development (NHU) to contribute with articles about crafts and the process of gaining skills and knowledge in crafts.
