Carl Hatteland from Klepp arrived in Vats via Stavanger in 1876. He was to become the manager of the Vats Spinning and Weaving Mill. Five years later, he earned his trading license and opened a general store in Åmsosen.
This book covers five generations of the Hatteland family in Åmsosen, Vats. The author takes us on a journey that begins with the childhood of a farmer s son, Carl Hatteland, in Jæren, up to the establishment of Jakob Hatteland Electronic in 1971 and what is today known as the Hatteland Group. The Hatteland Group is a family business with several international subsidiaries within manufacturing and trading, focusing on electronic components, logistics systems and automated storage solutions.
NILS OLAV ØSTREM, born in Skjold in 1961, is a professor of history at the University of Stavanger. He has written numerous books on emigration history and local history, including four volumes about the farms and people of the former Skjold municipality.
