Omtale fra forlaget
Functional dance anatomy wants to give knowledge of how the muscles function, which muscles you use and when you dance technically how you should use them. The author Tina Hessel claims that there is no conflict between anatomy and dance technique. Function in dance and anatomy are both based on facts, but one has to understand the functional dynamics between these two.
The book is divided into three sections. Anatomical descriptions of the skeleton and the main muscles. Specific exercises to strengthen the muscles important for dancer to be able to dance technically and anatomically correctly. Stretching exercises to avoid unnecessary injuries and pain. The aim is to help develop better dancers and create less injuries.
The book is primarly written for dancers, dance students, and dancing teachers. In addition anyone who uses their body in physical work, and medical personnel dealing with such matters, will get great help from this book which is building a bridge between the anatomical and the functional.
The 174 pages have many helpful illustrations. The dance photographer, Erik Berg, has contributed over 200 pictures of dancers of the national ballet in Norway. Ina Eriksen has contributed 90 drawings of the skeleton and muscles.
